With Windows 10 version 1803, Microsoft Introduced Timeline feature, which allows users to search and view all activities in the past such as apps you have opened, web pages you have visited, and documents you have accessed in the timeline. Also, access previous tasks up to 30 days later – including those on other PCs that have received the Timeline feature. You Can say this is the Star feature of the latest windows 10 April 2018 update. But unfortunately, some users report the “windows 10 timeline feature not working, For some others report  “windows 10 Timeline Activity not showing up” after a recent windows update.

Windows 10 Timeline Activity not showing up

“After updating windows 10 April 2018 update, I tried new timeline feature. It worked for about 2 days. I could see my last photos and files. Now, suddenly It doesn’t work at all (Timeline Activity not showing up). I checked my windows settings – everything is on. I tried to re-enter my Microsoft account, use the local account, and even create another Microsoft account. But still, the timeline features not working on my windows 10 Laptop.”

Fix Windows 10 Timeline Feature fails to work

If you’re also facing the problem of the Timeline feature not working, Here are some quick solutions you may apply to fix this issue.

First of all open Settings > Privacy > Activity history make sure “Let Windows collect my activities from this PC” and ” Let Windows sync my activities from this PC to the cloud” is check marked.

Also If you are facing a sync issue simply click on the Clear button to get refreshed. which fixes most of windows timeline feature-related issues.

Turn on Windows 10 Timeline Feature

Under Show activities from accounts, ensure that your Microsoft Account is selected and the toggle is set to the On position. Now restart windows and click on the timeline icon on your Taskbar, Then click Turn on the option under see more day as shown image below. I am sure now it should be working fine.

Note: If you still don’t see the Timeline icon, right-click on the taskbar and make sure the Show Task View button is selected.

Tweak Windows Registry Editor to fix Timeline feature

If the above option failed to work, let’s enable the windows timeline feature from the windows registry editor. Press Windows + R, type Regedit, and ok to open the windows registry editor. Then first backup registry database and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System

After reaching to System, move aside to the corresponding right pane and make a double-click on the following DWORD successively:

• EnableActivityFeed
• PublishUserActivities
• UploadUserActivities

Set the value for each of them to 1 under Value data and choose the Ok button to save.

Tweak Windows Registry Editor to fix Timeline feature

Note: If you don’t find any of these DWORD values on the Right, put a right-click on the System string and select New then DWORD (32-bit) value. Follow the same for creating the 2 other. And Rename them consecutively to – EnableActivityFeed, PublishUserActivities, and UploadUserActivities.

Once the changes are made, Restart the Windows to put the changes into effect. Now check Windows 10 Timeline Feature working?

Turn On nearby share, It may help to work back windows timeline

Agin Few users recommend enabling the Nearby Share help them to fix Timeline Activity not showing up. You can also try that once following the procedure:

Press Windows + I to open windows settings.

Click on System, Then click on Shared Experiences

Now on the right panel Toggle the switch under Share across devices segment to On. And set I can share or receive from to Everyone nearby as shown image below. Do a Reboot to the Windows and check if it’s working fine or not.

Some Other solutions you may try

Also open Settings -> Privacy -> Choose activity History. Now on the right pane scroll down to clear activity history and click on the Clear button. Once the history is deleted, Timeline should work properly.

Open command prompt as administrator, type sfc /scannow, and ok to run the system file checker. which scan and restore missing, corrupted system files and fix timeline not working if corrupted causing the issue.

Again temporarily Disable Security software ( antivirus ) If installed. To check and make sure antivirus not blocking timeline to working properly.

Also, create a new Microsoft Account And log in with the newly created user account and try to Enable and open the Timeline feature. This may also be very helpful if the old user profile is corrupted or due to any misconfiguration Timeline feature stopped working.
